The interim report arising from the current review of the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation confirmed the alarming state of decline of Australia’s natural environment and iconic places, and reached the conclusion that the EPBC Act is ineffective. Among a raft of recommendations national standards are called for, along with an independent regulator and stronger monitoring and compliance.
