Sam has 30 years’ experience working in conservation and restoration of Australian wetland ecosystems. With experience across government, academia and industry, Sam is currently a Professor in the Australian Rivers Institute at Griffith University and also holds positions as co-chair of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) Biodiversity Assessment Expert Reference Group for the Nature Repair Market and a member of the Advisory Committee for Social, Economic and Environmental Science (ACSEES) for the Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA), the Lake Eyre Basin Scientific Advisory Panel, Healthy Land and Water’s Science Committee and the Scenic Rim River Improvements Trust. Sam is deeply committed to ensuring that environmental decision-making is informed by robust and accessible science, alongside other knowledge and value systems. She has a PhD in Ecology from Griffith University and a Masters in philosophy from the University of New England. Born in Brisbane, Sam has a long-term connection to Moreton Bay.
