Submissions - The Moreton Bay Foundation

Government plays a fundamental role in protecting and managing Moreton Bay. The health of the Bay depends heavily on the laws, policies and decisions that are made by politicians and government officials. TMBF seeks to advocate for positive changes to these through communication, networking and leadership. This includes preparing and making submissions based on expert knowledge on matters that threaten the sustainability of the Bay.

July 2026 – TMBF supports the Diamond Head concept design, while urging Sunshine Coast Regional Council to integrate eco-engineering, habitat restoration, stormwater treatment and monitoring to protect Pumicestone Passage and improve long-term resilience for the community.

Legislative Submission: State Development and Public Works Organisation (Critical Minerals) and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2026.

June 2026 – The Moreton Bay Foundation formally opposes the proposed Critical Minerals Amendment Bill 2026, warning that sweeping new executive powers are not limited to critical minerals and could be used to bypass vital environmental safeguards across the State, and accelerate the degradation of the Bay’s sensitive ecosystems.

May 2026 – TMBF has lodged a submission on the proposed Wellington Point boating facilities upgrade. While we support improvements to boating safety, accessibility and efficiency, we have significant concerns about the leading option, which would reclaim sensitive marine and intertidal habitat within the Moreton Bay Marine Park and adjacent to the internationally recognised Moreton Bay Ramsar Wetland.
