Our History
Early in 2018, a few people had a vision – to ensure that Moreton Bay becomes well known and valued for its excellent environmental health, biological diversity, and ecological sustainability, its innovative robust and resilient economy, and its Indigenous culture and heritage. That vision took a major step towards reality, when on 13 August 2018, TMBF was legally created. The Foundation was then registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profit Commission (ACNC) on 5th of November 2018 and received Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status from the Australian Tax Office on 7th of November 2018 . The initial directors identified a number of needs to instigate its vision:
- Greater collaboration among the universities and other organisations engaged in conserving the Bay;
- An independent body that would provide an accessible source of information, education and advocacy;
- Private sector funding; and
- Greater community engagement.
Our Constitution
Section 7 of our Constitution lays out the Principal Objects of our Charitable Purposes:
- pursue and further the protection and enhancement of the natural environment within the geographic area of the Moreton Bay region situated in South-east Queensland, Australia, including in relation to its catchments, coastal areas and tributary rivers (the “Moreton Bay Area”); and
- facilitate, commission, organise, implement or otherwise be involved in the collection, synthesis and dissemination (amongst other things) of data gathered or information obtained from the carrying out of academic or scientific research or other educational pursuit in connection with the Moreton Bay Area for the purposes of the protection and enhancement of its natural environment, each for the benefit of current and future generations of the public, and the communities situated within, or adjacent to, the Moreton Bay Area.

Our Board
In line with its values, The Moreton Bay Foundation is committed to collaborative and independent governance, founded on the highest standards of integrity and evidence-based governance principles. The Board of Directors is appointed, and acts in accordance with the Foundation’s constitution.
Our Committees
In line with good practice governance, The Moreton Bay Foundation (TMBF) Board relies on an Advisory Committee to support it in its responsibilities, and work. The committee provides advice to the staff and Board members, particularly on scientific and technical issues. Committee activities are reported to the Board.
